Hero Principal Stops School Shooting in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma After Student Is Spared by Gun Malfunction
PAULS VALLEY, Okla. — Newly released details and surveillance footage reveal the tense moments inside Pauls Valley High School during a shooting incident that left Principal Kirk Moore injured but is being credited with preventing a greater tragedy.
According to investigators, 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins entered Pauls Valley High School with two loaded semi-automatic pistols and immediately began targeting students in the foyer area. Authorities say Hawkins attempted to fire at a student, but the weapon malfunctioned and failed to discharge.
The student reportedly pleaded for his life, prompting Hawkins to lower his weapon and allow the student to leave the area.
Moments later, Principal Kirk Moore rushed from his office and confronted the suspect. During the struggle, Hawkins fired a shot that struck Moore in the lower right leg. Despite his injury, Moore continued to fight back, wrestling the suspect and managing to disarm him.
Assistant Principal also joined Moore in subduing Hawkins, and together they restrained him until law enforcement arrived on the scene.
Officials say surveillance footage confirms the sequence of events, highlighting the principal’s quick response and bravery under extreme danger.
Hawkins has since been taken into custody, and an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Authorities and community members have widely praised Principal Moore for his heroic actions, which they believe prevented multiple casualties at the school.
