NITRO, West Virginia — A tragic shooting at a Walmart parking lot in Nitro has left the community mourning the death of 40-year-old Misty Rose Williams, who was found fatally shot on Monday morning.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Walmart Nitro Marketplace after coworkers reported Williams missing during her break. Upon arrival, officers discovered her unresponsive inside her vehicle. They forced entry by breaking a rear window and confirmed she had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later identified 54-year-old Eric Dewayne Richmond as the suspect. Authorities confirmed he was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. Officials also stated that Richmond and Williams shared children.
