Man Found Dead in Alleged Targeted Incident at Ajax Home, Durham Police Investigate

A man has died following a violent incident at a residence in Ajax, Ontario, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Durham Regional Police Service.

According to police, officers responded to a reported break-in at a home near Shorten Place and Haskell Avenue around 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say two suspects were seen fleeing the area before police arrived. Despite a search involving officers and a K9 unit, the suspects were not located.

Durham police confirmed the case is being treated as a targeted incident rather than a random break-in. Investigators also stated there is currently no threat to public safety.

The victim is the second homicide case recorded in the region in 2026. Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased or the suspects, noting that details will be made public once confirmed.

Investigators are continuing to canvass the neighborhood and are urging residents and witnesses to come forward with any video footage from between midnight and 2 a.m. Tips can be provided directly to police or through Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident in the Durham Region community of Ajax.
