Raines High School Shooting Leaves 1 Person Critical, School Locked Down

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting near Raines High School in Jacksonville on Monday afternoon left one person in critical condition and prompted a temporary lockdown at the school, according to authorities.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to reports of a large group gathering near Raines Viking Way around 2:45 p.m., where a fight was reportedly about to break out. During the response, dispatchers also received reports that shots had been fired.

Law enforcement confirmed that multiple individuals were detained for questioning, although no arrests have been made at this time. Officials also clarified that the individual who was critically injured was not a student and has since been reported in stable condition.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Witnesses in the area described hearing chaos following the incident, with residents reporting sudden screams and panic as the situation unfolded near the school campus.

The lockdown was implemented as a precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff, all of whom were later confirmed to be safe.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the confrontation and subsequent gunfire.
